OIE/World Bank Global Animal Health Initiative: The Way Forward

An entire web space (www.oie.int/eng/OIE-WB_Conference_1007/en_Global_Animal_Health_Initiative.htm) is dedicated to all documentation on the “ OIE/World Bank Global Animal Health Initiative: The Way Forward” Conference (October 9, 10, 11 2007). Material available include the speeches of Dr Bernard Vallat, OIE Director General and of Katherine Sierra, Vice President Sustainable Development of the World Bank as well as working documents, speakers presentations and OIE economic studies.

This conference allowed worldwide renowned specialists of animal and public health, as well as economists and experts in development to recommend new technical directions and economic models to face emerging threats linked with the increased movement of pathogens of animal origin caused by today’s globalised markets and climatic changes with negative socio-economic and public health consequences worldwide.

The World Bank and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) co-organized the conference in collaboration with the FAO. It was held at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington DC (USA).
