AAEP On Call Veterinarians To Assist Breeders' Cup Telecast

AAEP On Call Veterinarians To Assist Breeders' Cup Telecast

Equine veterinarians representing the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ On Call program will assist ESPN with horse health information during the Oct. 26 & 27 Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Monmouth Park.  Renowned equine surgeons Larry Bramlage, DVM, MS, and Wayne McIlwraith, BVSc, Ph.D., will be available to provide timely health reports to the media and viewing audience regarding the athletes in each race.

Dr. Bramlage is a partner in Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky.  He is a past president of the AAEP and is the chairman of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation’s Research Committee.  Dr. McIlwraith, who also is an AAEP past president, is a professor of surgery and director of the Orthopaedic Research Center at Colorado State University.  He holds the Barbara Cox Anthony University Chair in Orthopaedics.  Both Drs. Bramlage and McIlwraith are board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Funded in part by the prestigious Oak Tree Racing Association, the On Call program serves over 100 televised equine events annually.  More than thirty media-trained AAEP-member veterinarians share their veterinary expertise as On Call spokespersons.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse.  Currently, the AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its nearly 9,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
