BLM Impounds Abandoned Idaho Horses

MARSING, ID – The Owyhee Field Office of the Boise District, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), posted a legal Notice of Impoundment of abandoned horses on public lands managed by BLM October 31st.

Two different groups of horses were reported as apparently abandoned in the Rabbit Creek Road/Reynolds Creek Area of Owyhee County.  These along with any other abandoned horses will be investigated in coordination with the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office and an Idaho State Brand Inspector.

The Notice of Impoundment states that if the abandoned horses are not claimed within five days after publication and/posting of the Notice, the horses will be removed.

“We appreciate the coordinated efforts of the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office and the Idaho State Brand Inspector,” said Buddy Green, BLM’s Owyhee Field Office Manager.

Any person(s) wishing to make claim of the abandoned horses should contact Jake Vialpando, Owyhee Supervisory Rangeland Management Specialist at (208) 896-5916 or Buddy Green, Owyhee Field Manager at (208) 896-5913.
