Meredith Manor International Equestrian Centre, WVU Offering Equine-Focused Degree

Meredith Manor International Equestrian Centre, WVU Offering Equine-Focused Degree

PARKERSBURG, WV—West Virginia University at Parkersburg recently announced a new equine-focused degree in conjunction with Meredith Manor International Equestrian Centre.

WVU-P has entered into an agreement with Meredith Manor to offer an associate in applied science degree in technical studies with emphasis in two areas: Equine Management and Equestrian Studies. Meredith Manor International Equestrian Centre is an internationally recognized equestrian vocational school in Waverly, West Virginia, dedicated to preparing students for successful careers with horses.

“We are chomping at the bit to make this available to our students,” says Faith F. Meredith, director of Meredith Manor. “This is a great opportunity for them.”

“We welcome this partnership,” says WVU-P President Marie Foster Gnage. “This is a wonderful addition to our degree offerings and provides an opportunity to partner with Meredith Manor and its students via our technical studies program.”

As part of the agreement, Meredith Manor students actively studying for equine science or riding master certificates will be eligible to enroll at WVU-P to earn the 60-credit-hour associate degree.

According to Rhonda Richards, executive dean of academic affairs at WVU-P, the university’s technical studies program consists of a state-approved curriculum that includes three components: general education, technical core and technical/occupational specialty. “Meredith Manor students enrolling in the program will complete 21 credit hours comprising the general education component of the degree at WVU-P,” she says. The remaining 39 credit hours will consist of equestrian-related courses taken at Meredith Manor that will be converted to WVU-P college credit.

More than 30 students at Meredith Manor have already expressed an interest in the new degree opportunity.
