Top Reining Event Returns to Kentucky Horse Park

Some of the nation's best reiners and 200 top horses from across the nation will be participating in the Clayton Woosley Hall of Fame Reining, which includes the Brownwood Farm Derby with $29,000 added money, the Clayton Woosely Memorial Perpetual Youth Trophy that highlights the youth age groups, and a USEF youth qualifier for teh 2009 Championships. This event, from July 25-27, will not only showcase the elite sport of reining, but will include a full slate of classes for all reiners.

Reining is a judged event designed to show the athletic ability and training of a ranch-type horse. Competitors are required to work one of 10 approved patterns that include small slow circles, large fast circles, flying lead changes, roll-backs over the hocks, 360-degree spins done in place, and the exciting sliding stops that are the trademark of the reining horse.

Reining is a high-energy, exciting sport in which the audience is encouraged to vocalize their enthusiasm and support of a good ride by cheering and whistling. The rining championships have a mass appeal to horse enthuseasts and families aloike who are looking for an exciting way to spend a summer day.
