Rags To Riches Retired

Rags to Riches Retired

By Kathryn Brim, Editor

Rags to Riches, who is most remembered for her win over Horse of the Year, Curlin, in the 2007 Belmont Stakes, has officially been retired. The filly had recently returned to training following a hairline fracture sustained in September, but had begun to show signs of a new injury during her latest workouts.

The filly’s trainer, Todd Pletcher, has confirmed that it is the exact same situation as her original injury – a hairline P1 fracture. Not wanting to risk the animal’s longevity, the horse’s owners, Michael B. Tabor and Derrick Smith, and Pletcher decided to retire her from the track.

She will begin her broodmare career this spring, as she is reportedly scheduled to be bred to Giant’s Causeway in the next few months.
