white line infections
QuoteReply

Hello EvErYoNe!  i am looking to see if i can get some information from some of yall about " White Line".  i was given a horse that has white line in her front left hoof, and i just have not found the right cure for her.  i have had her about a month now and she can hardly walk on that hoof at all.  i have been putting iodine in the infection, using sole paint, and soaking every day, but it has seem to be worst.  if there is any info you can provide it would be wonderful.  thanks alot!

p.s.  can you believe she is only 5 yrs old!

Hi! I was wondering what you were soaking with?  Idoine is great at killing fungus/bacteria but it is also great at killing live tissue. If it is true whiteline than the hoof wall will most likely sound hollow when you tap on it. The wall and laminae are extremely compromised due to the infection so weight bearing in that area is not benificial. Relieve the wall, kill the bacteria/fungus with soaking with vinegar or white lightning (I found that these work the best because they allow for the hoof to heal withut killing live tissue) and you could even use a boot so the gap is kept clean. I trimmed a mule that had it bad in a rear foot for over a year so we did the above(boot and all) for a month or more and slowly but surely a good connection grew in. Depending how far the infection goes up into the whiteline. If not far then in maybe 2-3 trims. Other wise you are probably looking at a couple of months or more. Is there any infection in the frogs? Oh, they must be kept dry or the infection will multiply like crazy!

Hope I was helpful and good luck!  -Rachel

White Lightning Liquid 8 oz

White Lightning is a solution which has the ability, when mixed with equal parts of white vinegar, to produce chlorine dioxide. Chlorine dioxide is very aggressive in neutralizing bacteria, fungus and yeast, and has been proven to be highly effective in the treatment of White Line Disease, Thrush, and Hoof Rot
